LG Front-Load dE1 or dE2 With the Door Closed

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026LG · washers
Code meaning & immediate answer

dE1 concerns a door that is not properly closed; dE2 concerns a closed door that has not locked. Look for trapped laundry or a visibly damaged latch, then use the documented reset once. Closed and locked are not equivalent.

Never defeat the door interlock.

LG full-size front-load washers covered by the dE/dE1/dE2 guide. SideKick pedestal drawer codes have a separate owner because that appliance has two closures.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Compare the behavior

Record whether the door is failing to close or failing to lock. That distinction helps service assess dE1 or dE2, but neither code alone proves that a switch or control has failed.

Observed stateInterpretation / next step
dE1Door closure not properly achieved.
dE2Closed but locking not achieved.
Repeat after unobstructed close/resetService rather than force.

Code-specific checks

Check the seal area before repeating Start

Wait for the normal release, open the door and move laundry away from the gasket and latch area. A sleeve can allow the door to look almost shut while preventing a secure closure. Reduce an overpacked load if it presses against the door. Do not slam the handle to force the lock.

Use the manufacturer’s electrical reset correctly

LG’s guide says to power off, disconnect supply, hold Start/Pause for five seconds with power disabled, then reconnect and try again. Use an accessible safe means of isolation; do not reach an outlet through water. This is the guide’s sequence for the code, not a universal cure for all washer faults.

Read a repeat as a service result

A bent or broken visible latch is a reason to stop forcing it. A continuing dE1/dE2 after a clear door area and one reset requires service. Do not tape the latch, insert a substitute striker, hold the door shut during operation or bypass the interlock to complete the load.

If the warning returns

Caught fabric → reposition

Visible damage → service

Clear door plus repeated code → service.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
