PF identifies interrupted power. A single PF after a known outage is different from a washer that repeatedly loses power while other appliances stay on. Record the interruption pattern before assuming a failed control board.
LG washers whose supplied manual uses PF for power failure. Restart/resume behavior varies by model; this guide does not prescribe a universal button sequence.
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Compare the behavior
PF is evidence of a power event, not a component diagnosis. The most useful additional information is whether the interruption affected the house, the circuit or only the appliance.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Known household outage | Follow model recovery instructions. |
| Only washer repeatedly loses power | Supply/appliance assessment needed. |
| Hot or damaged connection | Stop use; qualified assessment. |
Code-specific checks
Preserve the interruption context
Write down the cycle stage, whether household clocks reset and whether a breaker or protective outlet operated. A phone photograph of PF is useful, but the timing around it is what separates a known external outage from a repeating appliance-only interruption.
Resume using the exact panel instructions
LG describes a recovery system that can remember work interrupted by a power loss. Use your model manual for the resume or restart action. Check an accessible plug is seated in its appropriate wall outlet; do not use a power strip as a workaround, repeatedly reset a tripping breaker or reach across water to touch a connection.
A repeated PF changes the task
If supply interruptions recur without an identified household outage, stop treating PF as a message to erase. An electrician may need to assess the supply, or appliance service may need to assess the washer. A warm, damaged or discolored plug/outlet, burning smell or repeated protective-device operation is a reason to stop use promptly.
If the warning returns
One known outage → recover normally
Repeated unknown interruptions → qualified diagnosis
Electrical damage → stop.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
