WM3400CW OE: residual-water hose and drain filter

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026LG · washers
The short answer

The WM3400CW manual identifies a residual-water drain hose and drain-pump filter behind its maintenance cover. Drain cooled residual water by the documented hose method before opening the filter. OE does not prove the pump has failed, and a full drum must not be released by simply unscrewing the filter.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Follow the drain path

Check the parts of this route that your manual permits you to access. Note where water flows and where you cannot confirm it. Do not open covers or components that require service access.

Model-specific checks

  1. Follow the drain path first

Stop the machine and note OE, water level and whether the household drain backs up. Inspect visible hose routing without moving a stacked appliance.

  2. Prepare for residual water

Let hot water cool, unplug safely and place the low container and towels specified by the manual. If access or water control is uncertain, stop and obtain help.

  3. Use the small hose before the filter

The matched manual separates draining through the small residual-water hose from removing the pump filter. Control and collect that water first; do not open a filter against an undrained drum.

  4. Clean and reassemble correctly

Follow the manual’s filter removal/cleaning instructions. Refit the filter and hose plug securely before restoring use; incorrect assembly can leak. Do not dismantle a pump.

  5. Reassess recurring OE

If the external path and permitted filter maintenance do not resolve it, report those findings to service. A pump sound alone does not verify flow.

What to record next

Drain through the emergency hose before opening the pump filter, following the WM3400CW manual and allowing hot water to cool. A cleared filter does not prove that the rest of the drain route or pump is working.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
