WM4500HBA ezDispense reservoirs are for the specified liquid products, not powder. Use the manual detergent compartment for powder with automatic dispensing turned off, and put packs directly in the empty drum before laundry.
Models covered
WM4500HBA/00 US model; Adding Cleaning Products and ezDispense FAQ in its owner manual. Shared concept also applies to specified WM6700 ezDispense units, but control sequences differ.
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Powder detergent | Manual compartment; automatic detergent delivery off. |
| Single-use pack | Drum before laundry, never a reservoir. |
| Powder already in automatic tank | Stop and use documented reservoir cleaning. |
Model-specific checks
Locate the three different routes
The cartridge reservoirs store automatic-dose liquid products. The manual detergent compartment handles a single wash dose. The drum is the location for a detergent pack before loading laundry. These are different routes; a product fitting physically into a reservoir does not make it suitable for that reservoir.
Prevent a second detergent dose
If using a special detergent or powder manually, turn off automatic detergent dispensing for that load using the model’s Detergent Level control. Confirm the selected state rather than assuming that an empty-looking drawer disables it. Do not add a manual dose on top of active automatic delivery.
If powder went into the reservoir
Stop using that reservoir and consult its documented removal and cleaning instructions. Do not add another chemical to dissolve the mistake. A wash that finishes does not show that a contaminated liquid-delivery path is clear. If correct cleaning does not restore delivery, service is safer than an improvised pump-flushing method.
Interpret the comparison
Use the WM4500HBA drawer instructions to choose the correct detergent compartment. Powder and automatic liquid dispensing use different routes; do not fill a liquid reservoir with powder.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
