The MVW5430MW quick-start guide says to use one of the two topmost Soil & Rinse settings when using fabric softener; those settings add an Extra Rinse. Do not confuse the soil/rinse choice with the Deep Fill water-level choice.

Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Extra Rinse position selected | Matches the softener rinse instruction. |
| Only Deep Fill changed | Wash-water level and rinse count are separate. |
| Uncertain dispenser location | Follow exact-model laundry-product diagram. |
Model-specific checks
Two knobs answer different questions
Soil & Rinse selects wash soil level and the number of rinses. Deep Fill determines wash-water level. Selecting more wash water is therefore not a substitute for selecting the extra rinse the guide calls for when using softener.
Set up the rinse before the load
Choose one of the documented extra-rinse positions before starting. Add softener only using the method and amount allowed by the model guide and the product label. Do not put it into a bleach compartment or improvise a dispenser fitting based on a retailer answer.
If residue is the real complaint
Inspect the whole task: correct product, permitted addition method, selected rinse and a load with room to move. Repeating a full wash with more detergent can make a residue complaint harder to interpret. If correct use still leaves residue or a dispenser overflows, record that exact behavior for support instead of attributing it solely to the rinse knob.
What to record next
Use the rinse option named in the MVW5430MW model guide when adding fabric softener. A retailer description alone does not establish that a particular dispenser or rinse setting is present.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
