MEDC465HW keeps tumbling after the cycle ends

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026Maytag · dryers
The short answer

Maytag’s MEDC465HW feature sheet describes Wrinkle Control as 40 minutes of additional no-heat tumbling after drying. Compare that normal post-cycle behavior with continuous running, continued heating or failure to advance through a timed cycle before deciding that the timer has failed.

Models covered

MEDC465HW model family, as identified by the manufacturer feature sheet. This does not establish every HW0 engineering revision or an internal timer part. It is an electric-dryer feature explanation.

Before you begin
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.

Compare the behavior

Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.

Model-specific checks

Record the setting and timing

Note whether the drying portion has ended and Wrinkle Control was selected. A post-cycle feature should not be mistaken for a cycle that never finishes drying.

Compare the documented behavior

The model’s sheet gives 40 minutes of no-heat tumbling. A different pattern, especially continuing heat or unbounded running, does not fit that simple explanation.

Review the normal stop controls

Use the actual panel and owner’s manual to end operation. Do not open panels, bypass a door switch or choose a timer part based on the symptom.

Escalate behavior outside the feature

If the machine fails to stop through normal controls, heats abnormally or keeps running beyond the documented behavior, stop using it and arrange service. Provide selected cycle, option and elapsed time.

What to record next

Compare the tumbling period with the duration in the MEDC465HW feature sheet. Intermittent tumbling during Wrinkle Control is different from a dryer that will not stop when the option is off or the door is opened.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
