The model-family troubleshooting table allows brief nozzle dripping as Steam Care starts: condensed steam can emerge as water. A continuing leak, wet floor or supply-hose leak needs a different response.
Models covered
DVE(G)50R5400* steam-capable variants in DV5400 manual DC68-03784D-00. R5200 instructions in the same manual do not establish steam capability.
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Brief nozzle droplets at startup | Compare with the documented condensation behavior. |
| Water at hose or on floor | Treat as a leak, not a steam effect. |
| Dripping continues | Stop and seek model-specific service. |
Model-specific checks
Locate the water before naming the fault
Distinguish droplets from the drum nozzle at steam startup from water beneath the cabinet or at the supply connection. Note whether the condition stops shortly after the cycle begins. This separates the manual’s startup observation from an ongoing leak.
Compare the selected cycle
Steam Care deliberately introduces moisture. Do not judge its result against a conventional drying cycle. The manual says clothing can need additional drying after a steam cycle; that does not explain a puddle beneath the machine.
When to stop
If dripping persists, fabric becomes abnormally soaked or water escapes outside the appliance, stop the cycle and arrange an inspection. A photo showing the leak location and the exact selected cycle is more useful than calling every drop a failed heater.
What to record next
A brief startup drip at the steam nozzle is different from ongoing water accumulation. Record where the water appears, how long it lasts and whether it continues after the documented startup phase.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
