The upper Delicate Dryer is a small-load rack compartment; it does not load or tumble like the lower drum. Check the upper loading and fabric guidance before comparing its results with the lower dryer.
Models covered
FlexDry DM9900M manufacturer manual. The upper compartment guidance is not for a conventional rack placed inside a rotating drum.
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Upper rack compartment | Follow delicate-load and rack guidance. |
| Lower rotating drum | Use the tumble-dryer cycle chart. |
| Hand-washed garment dripping wet | Remove excess moisture as documented first. |
Model-specific checks
Identify which dryer you started
Record whether the upper or lower control panel was used. The upper dryer is intended for relatively small delicate loads; the lower tumble dryer handles normal and heavier loads. A result from one compartment does not establish that the other compartment has the same problem.
Give air a path around the item
Use the supplied rack arrangement and the garment guidance in the manual. Avoid treating the shallow compartment as a bin for a bundle of wet laundry. For hand-washed items, the manufacturer recommends removing excess moisture with a towel before drying; the compartment does not replace water extraction.
Use the appropriate endpoint
Check garment care labels and the recommended upper cycle rather than extending heat indiscriminately. If an appropriate small load repeatedly remains wet, describe its fabric, initial wetness, selected upper cycle and result when requesting help. Do not apply lower-drum belt or moisture-bar repair advice to the upper compartment.
What to record next
Separating two drying systems gives a service request a useful starting point. A generic FlexDry “not drying” diagnosis often hides which compartment actually failed.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
