PE is a water-level sensing problem, not the same as IE slow filling. If a model-appropriate power reset does not clear PE, LG directs service. More water, detergent changes or repeated resets do not establish that sensing has recovered.
LG top-load models covered by LG’s PE guidance; front-load reset timings differ. Confirm PE in the exact manual before using a reset duration.
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Trace the supply and the reported state
A sensor-system message limits what the controller can know about the tub. This is why forcing a water quantity is a poor response even when the visible tub looks empty.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| PE on display | Water-level sensing issue; identify exact model. |
| IE instead | Use inlet-supply guidance. |
| PE returns after applicable reset | Service, not repeated fills. |
Code-specific checks
Read PE before changing the water supply
Photograph the display so PE is not confused with an inlet code. Note whether it appears before filling, during filling or after a pause. Those observations help a technician, but none proves which internal sensor, connection or control has failed.
Use one applicable reset, not conflicting timings
The cited top-load guide describes unplugging for five minutes before reconnecting. Other front-load documents use different timings. Follow the manual for your unit; do not combine instructions into an invented “hard reset.” Attempt normal operation only where there is no leak, overflow or other unsafe condition.
Preserve the service boundary
If PE returns, stop repeated test fills and request diagnosis. Do not add water through the dispenser to try to satisfy the sensor, open panels to blow through pressure hoses, or select a larger fill as a workaround. Tell service whether the water level visibly changed before the code and what reset was already attempted.
If the warning returns
Confirm PE → exact-model reset if safe
Returns → service
Overfill/leak → shut supply safely and stop.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
