WD100CW dE1, dE2 or dE3: Drawer Versus Lid

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026LG · washers
The short answer

A WD100CW SideKick has a sliding drawer and an inner lid. LG distinguishes a drawer not closed (dE1), drawer closed but not locked (dE2), and inner lid not properly latched (dE3). Check the closure named by the code before following a full-size front-loader door guide.

Never bypass the drawer or lid lock.

Models covered

WD100CW SideKick pedestal washer. Uses LG’s SideKick-specific code guide plus exact-model owner manual; excludes full-size front-load dE procedures.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Compare the behavior

Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.

Observed stateInterpretation / next step
dE1Drawer not properly closed.
dE2Drawer closed but not locked.
dE3Inner lid not latched; check obstruction or shipping film.

Model-specific checks

Match the physical closure to the code

Open the drawer only after the appliance permits it. For dE1, reopen and close the drawer normally. For dE2, LG’s guide describes turning the unit off, opening the drawer, restarting and closing firmly. “Closed” and “locked” are separate states; a shut-looking front does not prove the lock engaged.

A dE3 needs an inner-lid check

Look for clothing preventing the lid from seating and check whether original protective film remains rolled around its edge. Close the inner lid correctly before closing the drawer. Do not repeatedly slam the drawer to compensate for an obstructed inner lid.

Treat a repeated lock failure as a boundary

Photograph the exact code, note which closure was obstructed and whether normal correction cleared it. A click or buzz alone does not identify the failed part. If it continues with both closures unobstructed, arrange service instead of defeating a lock or operating with the drawer partly open.

Interpret the comparison

Two closures explain why a generic “close the washer door” answer can fail on SideKick. Mapping codes to those closures avoids both wrong-part assumptions and unsafe bypasses.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
