WFW3090JW Dosing Aid Shows a Number but Does Not Add Detergent

The short answer

Dosing Aid calculates a recommended detergent quantity in milliliters. It is not a bulk Load & Go tank that measures and supplies detergent for you.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Compare the behavior

Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.

Model-specific checks

Interpret the number

Select Dosing Aid before the wash as instructed by the guide. After Start/Pause and load detection, the recommendation appears. The guide allows detergent to be added after starting when Dosing Aid is used; the displayed amount is information for the person dosing the wash.

Use the detergent label

The aid can be adapted to the detergent dosing amount and local water hardness. Use the exact guide’s setup rather than assuming a displayed number is a concentration such as 2X or 4X. Follow the detergent manufacturer’s limits; do not add a second full dose simply because you expected an automatic tank.

Keep dispenser problems separate

A drawer that retains detergent after the correct amount was manually added presents a different issue. Record whether the product was liquid or powder and whether it was placed in the correct compartment. Do not put detergent packets in this drawer. A dosing recommendation alone does not verify that water is flowing through a blocked dispenser.

What to record next

The feature name sounds like automatic dispensing. Explaining when the number appears and who must supply the detergent prevents both no-detergent washes and accidental double dosing, without inventing a failed dosing pump.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
