WTW5057LW Has No Temperature Light: Check Tap Cold

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026Whirlpool · washers
The short answer

No illuminated light in the temperature column can mean Tap Cold is selected. The WTW5057LW guide explicitly describes that state; it is not automatically a failed display.

Models covered

WTW5057LW console in W11428540D; applies to the temperature column, not a completely dark control panel.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Compare the behavior

Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.

Model-specific checks

Read the whole panel

Check whether the washer otherwise powers on and responds. A dark temperature column with working cycle and option indicators is a different observation from no lights anywhere. Keep those symptoms separate when asking for service.

Compare available selections

Before starting a load, press Temp to cycle through the choices available for that cycle. The guide lists Tap Cold, Cold, Cool, Warm and Hot, with availability varying by cycle. Note whether named settings illuminate and whether the column goes dark at Tap Cold. Do not assume every cycle permits every temperature.

When it deserves further checking

If the indicators never respond even on a cycle with selectable temperatures, or the control behaves erratically, document the exact selection and response. This page explains a normal indicator state; it cannot establish that an inlet valve or temperature sensor is healthy. Check the actual wash outcome separately.

What to record next

The absence of a light is being used as a selection in this interface. Testing another allowed setting helps distinguish that design choice from a dead indicator without opening the washer or assigning a failed part.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
