The MED6500MW Pet Pro option deliberately uses an extended no-heat period to lift hair into its XL lint trap. Lack of heat during that phase alone does not establish a failed heater.
Models covered
MED6500MW electric Pet Pro dryer. This explains the no-heat phase of Pet Pro; a persistent heating failure needs separate checks. Do not transfer electric-dryer supply checks to MGD gas models.
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Only Pet Pro no-heat phase is cool | Consistent with the documented feature. |
| Heated cycle is also cold | Investigate power/settings through the ordinary no-heat route. |
| Lint trap packed | Clean before another load. |
Model-specific checks
Identify the selected task
Check whether you selected Pet Pro and where the dryer is in the process. Its hair-removal phase serves a different purpose from heated drying. A long run on that option is not equivalent to a heated cycle that cannot warm clothing.
Compare against an ordinary cycle
After confirming the load is suitable for heat and the lint screen and exhaust are unobstructed, compare behavior on a documented heated drying selection. Keep the comparison small and supervised. Do not repeatedly run the dryer if it becomes unusually hot, smells scorched or reports an airflow problem.
Use the XL trap as intended
Empty collected hair and lint before each load; a larger lint trap still needs routine cleaning. Do not remove it for operation or defeat a protection to obtain more heat. If heat is absent on an appropriate heated setting as well, the Pet Pro explanation no longer resolves the complaint.
Interpret the comparison
The decisive distinction is the operating phase, not whether the drum turns. This helps an owner describe the actual fault without prematurely ordering heating parts.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
