AC/AE-family codes describe communication inside the dryer, not failure to connect the phone to a router. A network reset does not substitute for the documented internal-error response.

Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.

The useful distinction is the location of the communication failure. A local code and an offline app can coexist, but one does not establish the cause of the other.

Capture the actual message
Write down every character and any leading 1. A photo is useful because similar display segments can be misread. Also record whether the dryer was operating or only being connected to an app. The words “communication error” alone leave those two situations ambiguous.
Use the documented restart once
Samsung’s instruction for this family is to shut the dryer off for 60 seconds and turn it back on. If the code persists, arrange service. Do not open the console to reseat boards or buy a board from a code list.
What to tell the technician
Report the full model, exact code and whether it returned immediately or after a particular operation. Include any recent installation or repair work as history, not as proof of causation. This gives a technician a path to diagnosis without an owner handling internal connections.

App-only problem without a local code: use connectivity support.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks.
