Smart Care reads a displayed diagnostic code with a phone camera. On this manual family, SmartThings network connection is scoped to the R6300 variants; the R6100 Smart Care label is not evidence of Wi-Fi capability.
Models covered
R6100 control panel in the DVE(G)45R6300*/45R6100* manufacturer manual. Do not transfer the R6300 Wi-Fi instructions to R6100.
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Smart Care code appears | Use the code as the troubleshooting starting point. |
| R6100 will not pair as a Wi-Fi appliance | Check the manual applicability; do not borrow R6300 instructions. |
Model-specific checks
Start with the label, not the app
Read the complete model label. The shared manual contains both R6100 and R6300 instructions, which is why a search result can show Wi-Fi setup beside this model. Use the applicability heading on the actual instruction, rather than assuming every section applies.
Read the displayed code
The R6100 Smart Care entry uses a three-second hold of Wrinkle Prevent. Camera recognition needs a clear view of the display. If glare or an oblique angle prevents recognition, record the characters and use the error guide directly; an app connection is not needed to preserve the code.
Separate the two outcomes
A code that can be photographed but not resolved is a troubleshooting question. An appliance that cannot be added as a network device may simply lack that feature. Buying a router or repeatedly resetting the dryer does not answer either question.
What to record next
The useful distinction is diagnostic code capture versus remote appliance control. Establishing which feature is present prevents a nonexistent networking fault from becoming a repair job.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
