A blinking Damp Alert is a sorting opportunity during compatible Sensor Dry cycles, not a declaration that every item is dry. The manual describes the alert near an average 80% dryness and excludes ACTIVEWEAR.
Models covered
DVE55A7300E panel and the cited A7300/A7700/A5500 manufacturer family manual. Use the actual panel’s Damp Alert control.
Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Alert blinks while cycle is running | Assess and remove suitably dry lighter items. |
| ACTIVEWEAR selected | The documented exclusion explains unavailable Damp Alert. |
| Entire load stays wet | Follow the drying-performance diagnostic. |
Model-specific checks
What the alert is asking you to do
With mixed fabrics, lighter items can be ready before heavier pieces. At the alert, pause safely and remove items that have reached the condition you want; leave items needing more drying. Judge garments individually instead of interpreting an average as a measurement of each item.
Check cycle compatibility first
The manual allows this option on Sensor Dry cycles except ACTIVEWEAR. An unavailable option on that cycle is not itself evidence of a broken button. If you selected a manual-time cycle, use its time settings rather than expecting the same moisture-based alert behavior.
If the load still finishes unevenly
Separate heavy and light fabrics next time. Record whether the alert occurred and whether the final problem is isolated to one heavy item or affects the whole load. The latter question belongs in the drying-performance guide, not in repeated attempts to cancel an alert.
What to record next
The alert is valuable only when treated as a decision point. Keeping it separate from the final-cycle endpoint clarifies why ignoring it can leave an uneven mixed load.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
