The filter reminder can appear even when the lint filter is already clean. A routine reminder is different from a vent warning, a specific Check filter message or an appliance that refuses to run.

Stop for smoke, burning smells, abnormal heat or repeated breaker trips. Let the dryer cool before cleaning. Do not expose wiring, bypass interlocks or work on gas components. If gas is smelled, leave and call the utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Compare the behavior
The reminder does not prove either a blockage or a clean airflow path. Distinguishing the icon from the accompanying performance symptom prevents both unnecessary repairs and false reassurance.

Identify the symbol
Match the displayed shape with the model’s icon chart. Do not call every warning near the lint area a filter error. Note whether it appears only around startup or after a load, and whether the dryer otherwise operates normally.
Complete ordinary maintenance anyway
Inspect and clean the lint filter as the manual permits, then refit it correctly. The reminder is useful even though it is not a direct cleanliness test. Repeatedly washing an already clean filter will not necessarily switch off a routine reminder.
Use the accompanying symptom
If drying time has increased, a vent icon appears or a code interrupts operation, troubleshoot that actual condition. If the only difference is the expected reminder and the dryer works normally, do not buy a sensor merely to extinguish it. A model-specific Check filter text message deserves its own manual check rather than this broad reassurance.

When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks.
