The MHW6630HW has a 16-hour Fresh Hold option. Its door remains locked while that post-wash option is active; the Use & Care instructions say to touch Power to cancel the option and unlock the door.
Models covered
MHW6630HW with Fresh Hold; not a blanket unlocking procedure for water-filled, hot, faulted or otherwise active washers.
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Wash finished; Fresh Hold active | Cancel the option with Power. |
| Water remains or error displayed | Use the applicable drain/error guidance. |
| Option canceled; door still held | Record the state; do not force the handle. |
Model-specific checks
Confirm it is post-wash tumbling
Check whether washing finished and Fresh Hold is selected. Intermittent movement after completion is consistent with the option, but a locked door alone does not identify its cause. A fill/drain error or standing water requires the relevant error path instead.
End the option deliberately
Touch Power to cancel active Fresh Hold, then allow the mechanism to release before pulling the handle. The guide also explains that the option selection can remain enabled for later loads. Deselect it before a future wash if you do not want post-wash operation.
Separate cancellation from repair
A door that does not release after cancellation is not proof that Fresh Hold is broken. Note the display, water level and whether the washer is still draining. Keep the latch intact and obtain service guidance if the state does not resolve; do not reach into the cabinet for a generic emergency-release procedure.
What to record next
This narrows an apparently failed door to a deliberate model feature only when the cycle context supports it. It does not turn every locked door into a Fresh Hold diagnosis.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
