Removing the designed removable post changes this washer to impeller mode. It creates more room for items to move; it does not turn the wash plate into a conventional tall agitator.
Models covered
WTW5057LW 2-in-1 removable-agitator configuration. This page does not cover removing the wash plate, plate cap or a fixed agitator.
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.
Compare the behavior
Match the documented control, cycle or feature before interpreting the result. The comparison below keeps normal model behavior separate from an unresolved fault.
| Observed state | Interpretation / next step |
|---|---|
| Post installed | Agitator configuration |
| Post removed normally | Impeller configuration |
| Post stuck or damage visible | Do not pry or continue dismantling |
Model-specific checks
Match the mode to the job
The quick guide distinguishes keeping the post for increased mechanical action from removing it for bulky items that need space. Follow the fabric care label and load guidance. Seeing different movement after removing the post is not, by itself, evidence that the drive has failed.
Use the correct removal boundary
Use only the designed user-removable post and the procedure in the supplied manual. Stop if it does not release normally. A repair guide covering the impeller or underlying cap is a different task; do not dismantle those parts simply to change wash modes.
Evaluate the result, not one moment
Observe safely with the lid closed. Compare whether an appropriate load finishes and whether clothing has room to move. A stationary basket in one observed interval does not identify a failed component. A wash that repeatedly stops, displays a code, or produces abnormal mechanical noise requires a separate diagnosis.
Interpret the comparison
The removable agitator allows a different wash configuration. If the basket or wash action is genuinely failing, record the cycle, load and movement rather than assuming the removable feature itself is broken.
When to stop and get help
Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
