Samsung SDC/5DC With the Detergent Drawer Closed

Fixlume editorialSource check: October 16, 2026Samsung · washers
Code meaning & immediate answer

SDC/5DC means the detergent drawer is not confirmed completely closed. It is a drawer-state problem, not the similarly shaped 5C drain code.

Stop for active leakage, electrical damage or unsafe access. Do not defeat a safety device.

Samsung washers whose own manual identifies the displayed code with the meaning below. Codes can differ by generation; this is not a universal parts diagnosis.

Before you begin
Wait for motion to stop and the door or lid to unlock. Water may be hot. Isolate power and follow the exact manual before any user filter maintenance. Never open a filter against a full drum, force a lock or bypass an interlock.

Compare the behavior

Check the display characters first. SDC/5DC concerns the detergent drawer, while 5C concerns draining. Those warnings point to different systems.

Code-specific checks

Read SDC rather than 5C

Read or photograph every character. On a small segment display, an extra D changes which part of the machine needs attention. Confirm that the machine actually has the monitored dispensing drawer described in its own manual.

Seat the drawer normally

Inspect the accessible drawer for an obstruction and slide it fully home by the normal motion. Samsung describes a click at full closure. Do not slam it, tape a switch closed or add detergent repeatedly to make the message disappear.

When the click does not clear it

A drawer that reaches its normal closed position while the code persists needs service. Its appearance cannot identify whether the cause is the drawer, a position sensor or another component.

If the warning returns

Confirm the complete code, close the drawer normally, then service a persistent SDC.

When to stop and get help

Only carry out maintenance permitted in your model’s manual. For service, note the full model number and suffix, displayed code, selected cycle and what happened during the checks. Leave internal wiring, gas components, pumps and safety devices to a qualified professional. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
